Skinspirational Series: Caitland

Our skinspirational series highlights a few of our favorite skincare enthusiasts in the Skinspo community. They’ve shared skincare routines that work for them– and here, we go behind the routine and chronicle their skincare journey. First up? We chat with Caitland from IG @skinandbearit, who shares how she gains confidences in the skincare landscape.

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself!

A: I’m a 20-year-old junior in college studying early childhood education in Maryland. Aspiring educators stand up!! I’m obsessed with skincare, my friends and family will gladly tell you! I love to sing in the shower, read books outside of school, and LOVE to travel.

I can’t wait to see more parts of the world. From most fluent to least fluent, I speak French, Russian. Also I recently learned some Italian! Last but not least, I love to make people laugh!

Q: What got you started on your skincare journey?

A: I struggled with acne and hyperpigmentation since middle school! I was drawn to skincare and discovering the right products for my face because I had these issues for so long. Later, I followed and took advice from many skincare pages and I finally thought, “I can do that!”

Quarantining in the house inspired me to start a skincare page on Instagram, @skinandbearit. The skincare community is one of the most genuine, creative, and friendly communities that I have come across. Now, I am happy that I finally found the confidence to be a part of it.

Q: What’s your HG (holy grail) product?

A: I would have to say that my holy grail product would be Peach and Lily’s Glass Skin Serum! I just recently ran out of it and my skin is begging for more! It keeps my skin hydrated with hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and peptides. I love it since I am trying to reduce hyperpigmentation and acne. Overall, hydration is key!

Q: Who is your skinspiration?

I have two! Firstly, Nayamka Roberts-Smith, @labeautyologist, changed the game for me! Before Nayamka I didn’t realize that I wasn’t cleaning my face properly. She created the 60 Second Rule which refers to the minimum amount of time you should be cleansing your face. Her informative YouTube videos have also been extremely helpful in clearing my skin.

Lily Njoroge, @caveofbeauty, really helped my skin clear up tremendously! She is a licensed esthetician based in New York who created a custom (virtual) skincare routine for me with products that were within my budget. These ladies are definitely my skinspirations and I truly trust their recommendations!
