We’ve all seen the ads and have the same question: Does Curology actually work? In this article, I walk through our own experience with the service and dive into the varied Curology reviews on Reddit. The first time I heard about Curology I was 16 years old, devotedly watching one of Michelle Phan’s videos. Instead of a new makeup look, this video introduced a dermatologist from Curology answering some of the internet’s most urgent skincare questions. Since then, Curology has grown exponentially, thanks to word-of-mouth reviews, social media ads, and influencer sponsorships.

What is Curology?
Curology is a skincare subscription service. Their custom skin treatment blends advertise to help fight acne and boost anti-aging properties. The set includes a cleanser, custom treatment cream, and moisturizer. Every “patient” has access to a skin care provider through Curology. In addition, you can ask them questions about your skin and even request a change in formula.
Upon entering the site and expressing interest in the trial, you are asked questions about your skin and general health. Your responses help a dermatologist prescribe a treatment that’s best for you. Generally, you receive kits sent monthly.
My Personal Experience
I briefly tried Curology in 2017. At the time, the company was still growing and only selling formula as opposed to the 3 step package they now offer. My skin type is a demoralizing mix of sensitive and combination. As a result, it’s hard for me to find a balance between products potent enough to zap pimples yet natural enough to not cause a reaction.
My provider prescribed to me a mix of Azelaic Acid at 4%, Clindamycin at 1%, and Niacinamide at 4%. Luckily, Curology did nothing to make my skin breakout or react poorly, but it also didn’t minimize my acne. Looking back, I wish I had used my skincare provider more to my advantage and requested a formula change. Personally, I’d rather spend money on direct ingredients like Retinoids and Vitamin C.
Curology Reviews on Reddit
Enough about me! Curology reviews and testimonials are littered around social media platforms and community internet sites. I checked out what people had to say on Reddit, Instagram, and Twitter.
On Reddit, people love the way they’re able to request certain ingredients and have access to a medical professional. In response to “Is Curology legit or just a fad?,” users raved in particular about the personalized formula created for one’s skin needs.
Redditor mistress_mouse stated, “It definitely depends on your specific formula. I’ve had success with Curology, starting with Tretinoin, Azelaic Acid, and Clindamycin. I’m switching out the Clindamycin for Niacinamide in my next bottle and am excited for that.”
In general, most of the raves came from users who had significant acne or pimples that were visibly reduced by the Curology formula. Redditor Kalliopita stated, “It literally saved my face. I had cystic acne everywhere and it was horribly painful. Cleared it up completely.”
In another thread, user justkate2 posted her skin transformation (picture below) with Curology and reviewed the brand. She stated, “I have gone from someone who hated walking in public without makeup to someone who is comfortable going totally bare-faced or just putting on mascara. I still have a ways to go but the difference in my face is awesome.”
In addition, a recurring comment on Reddit is that the purging process can last anywhere from 8 weeks to 4 months. Note: the purging process is where skin cells turn over at a faster rate due to a new product and speed up the formation of pimples.
In a Reddit community called SkincareAddiction, ThaiPayroll said, “My skin purged for the LONGEST time(at least 4 months) but my skin is clear and I receive tons of compliments on it. My confidence is back!”
Curology Reviews on Instagram
On Instagram, users rave about the new three step package of Curology cleanser, formula, and moisturizer. In the past, Curology only sold personalized formula. People with cystic acne saw major transformations and Instagrammers integrated the little white tube into their product shelfies.
Interestingly, the Curology reviews on Instagram are generally more recent than Reddit’s. Many of the #curology posts I checked out were posted within the last hour! Conversely, many Reddit reviews were up to 4 years old.
Curology Reviews on Twitter
After a 10-minute scroll through the #curology thread on Twitter I could not find one bad review. The Twitter community praised the brand’s packaging and relatable ads. Also, they also post honest transformation pictures. You can check it out for yourself here.
Does it Work?
It depends. The general consensus from most social reviews is yes. A few outliers found the formula too powerful for sensitive skin or simply not strong enough for stubborn acne. Ultimately, a good way to find out if it works for you is to simply try it since Curology offers a first tube free.
